Community Collections Spotlight: Exploring the Public Art Archive

This webinar will feature CollectionSpace’s Public Art Profile, a collection management system built specifically for the public art field, developed in partnership with the Public Art Archive (PAA). PAA is a project sponsored by the Western States Arts Federation (WESTAF), dedicated to providing technology tools and resources to the public art field. In early 2019, WESTAF deployed the collection management system to eight programs across the US; these programs are now using the system to manage their publicly funded art collections from the commissioning the conservation processes. The first installment of this webinar will feature the collection management tool and its utilization of the CollectionSpace architecture to build a workflow suited specifically for the management of public art. This webinar is part of the “Community Collections Spotlight” series.

Speaker: Lori Goldstein, WESTAF
Lori Goldstein is the manager of WESTAF’s Public Art Archive. Goldstein is responsible for long-term planning, product development, and overseeing the addition of public art collections to the Archive. Prior to joining WESTAF, she served as public art and program manager for the Arts Council of Lake Oswego, Oregon. Prior to working at the Arts Council, she served as a contractor for the Archive during its formative years. Goldstein has also served as the public art assistant at Braaksma Design, a public art studio with projects that have been commissioned across the country. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Colorado College in history and received a master’s degree in art history with an emphasis on public art from the University of Colorado Boulder.

Facilitator: Laurie Arp, LYRASIS
As the Director of Collections Services and Community Supported Software, Laurie Gemmill Arp supervises ArchivesSpace and CollectionSpace, two community supported open source collection management software programs housed at LYRASIS. Laurie provides coordination between the organizational homes and the programs and support for activities such as governance, strategic planning and developing partnerships. Laurie also directs the activities related to digitization and preservation. For the Ohio Historical Society, she managed several award-winning digital projects and served as the State Archivist. She received her MLIS from UCLA; her MA from UCI; and her BA from UCSD. Laurie served as Principal Investigator and Co-Director of the It Takes a Village: OSS Sustainability Models of Collaboration & Sustainability project.
